Boomerang Workshops for Schools

Roger Perry has been demonstrating and holding workshops for schools since 1987, and has held them around the world. He is one of Australia’s leading authorities on boomerangs and captained the Australian Boomerang team for 20 years. Let Roger organise an educational tailored demonstration and workshop for your school.
Learn how to throw a boomerang, properly! Go from a no-throw to a pro-throw in one session. Impress your friends and make sure you can use Australia’s national toy like it’s supposed to be used.

We have a dedicated team at Rangs Boomerangs that conducts boomerang workshops for people of all age groups. You’ll learn the hunting story of the boomerang, have loads of fun and acquire a new skill at the same time. In addition to teaching you to how throw a boomerang, we’ll also show you to make your own. We specialise in school groups, but are happy to come to sports clubs, organisations or any informal group you may organise. Kids boomerang parties are a great way to keep the kids, and adults, active and having fun.

One-hour workshop

Roger will do a demonstration and talk on Aboriginal and modern competition boomerangs, and give and overview on Aboriginal history and cultural use of the boomerang and throw stick, and basic aerodynamics.

Roger has a large selection of old Aboriginal boomerangs, throw sticks, and Didgeridoos along with the modern competition boomerangs that he makes and will demonstrate.

Two-hour workshop

In the two-hour workshop, in addition to talk and demonstration, the children will sand pre-made wooden boomerangs and get to test them. Following the test, we will get the children to paint and decorate their boomerangs.

Three-hour workshop

In the three hour workshop, in addition to all the fun and education that’s provided in the two hour workshop, the children will also get the opportunity to decorate and take home their own Rangs T-shirts.

Workshops

“Roger conducted workshops in all classes at Greenfields School over a four week period. All children thoroughly enjoyed the talks and activities associated with the history making and use of boomerangs. He had a professional approach to conducting the workshops, a warm responsive manner of working with children and the ability to mix with school staff in an appropriate way.

The actual throwing of the boomerangs was conducted both in and out of school hours. Mr Perry was very conscious of the safety aspects of the activity at all times. Teachers from this school highly recommend Roger and his boomerang workshops, which were conducted over all year levels at this school with great success.”

Ken Bell, Greenfields Primary School Principal

“Just a short note to thank you for the three afternoon workshops and the demonstration you gave to our school this week. The school was abuzz with the excitement of boomerangs. Those who attended the workshops have all expressed delight with their product and newly learnt skill. Thanks also for the talk you gave to our year 6 classes on the aerodynamics of boomerangs. Best Wishes for your future and hope to see you on your 30 week tour in a couple of years’ time.”

Bryce Hammond, Pegs Creek Primary School Principal

“Congratulations and thank you for an excellent visit. All of our year 5 to 7 students thoroughly enjoyed their 3-hour session with your troupe. Your discussions, video displays and the making of the boomerangs by students, not only intrigued all students but created an amazing interest within the community.”

The feedback from students, teachers and parents has been outstanding with many asking when your next visit will be. As a result of this I would have no hesitation in asking you to visit every 2 years. I wish you every success with the rest of the tour.”
